1. Research &
Concept Development
Together with you as a customer, we explore the essence of the product to be developed. We listen to the needs and wishes and translate these into a clear program of requirements and wishes. Through concept sketches and an initial 3D CAD concept design, we visualize the ideas and lay the first building blocks for the final design.
It starts with understanding user needs through various research methods, such as audience analysis, market trends and competitive analysis. Design strategy translates research results into concrete design decisions, with a focus on functionality and aesthetics. Collaboration between research and design strategy leads to functional and attractive product design.
Concept development is where creativity and knowledge of technology come together in the process of industrial product development.
It forms the foundation on which the final product is built. It involves generating, evaluating and refining ideas to arrive at a concept that meets user needs, is technically feasible and commercially viable.
2. Engineering &
Prototyping
The concept is further refined and optimized in the engineering and prototyping phase. We translate the 3D model into a detailed design that is ready for practical testing and prototyping. Prototyping is a crucial part of this process, as it allows us to identify and resolve any bottlenecks at an early stage.
Product development focuses on the technical aspect of the product. It involves translating the design concept into a feasible product through technical specifications, prototyping, engineering and production processes.
Product development is an iterative process where designs are tested, validated and optimized to meet technical requirements and manufacturing standards.
Product design is essential to the success of a product and strongly influences brand recognition. In addition to aesthetics, good design includes functionality, ease of use, sustainability and emotion. Creating a unique visual identity that is consistent with the brand is one of the most important aspects of product design.
This can be achieved through distinctive colours, shapes, materials. When these elements come together, the product can be a powerful tool to strengthen the brand's identity and leave a lasting impression on consumers.
The transformation of an idea on paper into a tangible product or prototype is an almost magical process. It enables designers, engineers, the client and end users to test, validate and improve concepts before moving to series or mass production.
3. Design for Manufacturing
& Documentation
In this phase we optimize the design for efficient production by carefully making material choices and applying advanced techniques such as Design for Assembly. We select suitable production methods, prepare detailed documentation and strive for a product that meets the highest quality standards and ensures the satisfaction of both customers and end users.
Design for Manufacturing (DFM) is essential in product development, aimed at efficient production. It minimizes complexity by using fewer parts and simple assemblies. Materials and production techniques are carefully chosen for lower costs and better availability. DFA improves ease of assembly, speeds up installation and prevents errors. Production conditions such as available equipment and labour are also considered. DFM results in cost-effective designs that meet market and production requirements.
Documentation, such as 2D technical drawings, tolerances and fit systems, is essential for industrial product development. These drawings provide detailed information about design, dimensions and shapes, allowing accurate translation into tangible products. Tolerances and standard fit systems, such as the ISO fit system, ensure consistency and efficiency in the production process, while facilitating communication between designers and manufacturers. This documentation forms the basis for streamlined production, with each part manufactured according to design requirements.
A 0-series production, also called pilot production, is a crucial phase in the production process in which a limited number of copies of a new product are manufactured before the full production line is started.
Validation of Design: The pilot series production allows manufacturers to validate the product design in a real production environment. Any design errors or optimizations can be identified and adjusted before large-scale production begins.
Testing and Quality Control: The pilot series units produced are rigorously tested to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards. Any deviations are identified and corrected to ensure the consistency of the final product.
Market launch: In some cases, pilot series units can be used for market launch, for example for product demonstrations, customer acceptance testing or stakeholder reviews.
